On 12th May 2021, Ofsted released its second research review, this time into RE, looking at the factors that contribute to a high-quality RE curriculum.
Whilst it found that there was no single way to construct and deliver a high-quality RE curriculum, it did find some common features of strong practice. These include, amongst other things:
- Coverage and content are grounded in what is known about religion and non-religion from academic study
- Pupils are given opportunities to commit learning to long-term memory and draw on this when encountering new concepts and content
- The RE curriculum is well sequenced and is awarded enough time in the wider curriculum
- Teachers are well trained and have good subject knowledge
